Furnace Repair with Proven Results in Kalida, OH

Thermostat won't turn the furnace on? Here is what is usually behind it. Blank screen: swap the batteries. If it stays dark, the thermostat has probably lost its 24-volt supply, often from a blown low-voltage fuse on the furnace control board. Screen lit, no heat: confirm it is set to heat and no schedule or hold is overriding it. Make sure the furnace door is seated, since its safety switch cuts power when loose. Look for a tripped condensate float switch too. Stop and get a professional if a replacement fuse blows again. That fuse is a symptom of a short in the thermostat wiring, not a part to keep swapping. If you smell burning or see scorched wire, shut the furnace off at the breaker now. Pre-1990 Kalida, OH homes often lack a common wire, which is why many smart thermostat installs fail. Short cycling is most often caused by a dirty filter or blocked return vents that make the unit overheat and shut down. Replace the filter, clear vents, and make sure supply registers are open. A thermostat placed in direct sunlight or near a lamp can also cause rapid cycling. In Kalida, OH winters this wastes fuel and stresses the heat exchanger.

Most furnaces last 15 to 20 years with regular filter changes. In Kalida, OH winters, heavy use can shorten life if maintenance is skipped. Watch for increasing repair frequency, uneven heating, or higher energy bills after year 15. A cracked heat exchanger, confirmed only by a qualified technician, requires immediate replacement for safety.

Check the thermostat batteries and confirm the switch is set to heat. Replace the furnace filter if it is dirty, then verify the breaker is on. If the furnace still does not respond, turn the system off at the breaker to prevent further damage. Call (321) 463-9811 for referral to a local technician who can diagnose the issue safely.

A sealed air conditioning system does not use refrigerant up, so if the charge is low there is a leak somewhere. Cooling that weakens season after season, ice on the line set, or a hissing sound near the indoor unit all point to a leak rather than normal top-up. Adding refrigerant without locating the leak means paying again next season, and running low charge makes the compressor run hot. Ask for the leak to be found and quoted before agreeing to a recharge in Kalida, OH.
